I had an amazing time shooting with my friends Jenny and Miriam over at The Sassy Classy. Their blog keeps up with the latest trends and highlights local friends and talents who love fashion. Moving to Fayetteville has been such a rewarding experience. Finding passionate and professional women during my journey as a military “wife” has been fulfilling to me. Moving to a place where you know absolutely no one is very difficult, but finding women who inspire you and help you pursue the things you love is exactly what I needed during my transition to adulthood.
In this shoot us ladies got together to showcase an elegant evening for New Years Eve. While Miriam and Jenny’s looks were more casual and party-friendly, they dressed me up in this stunning red number by Sherri Hill. The dress is from An Affair to Remember located in Fayetteville, NC. It is the perfect spot for your pageant, formalwear and even bridal needs! After trying on a whirlwind of gorgeous gowns, Miriam and Jenny settled for this red carpet-ready dress. My favorite part of the dress is the long, cascading train and the back cut outs.
The setting of the shoot was at the Capitol Room in downtown Fayetteville. The Capitol Room is the musical space of a retired neurosurgeon who plays over five instruments. This small venue hosts private gatherings, events and music recitals. It had the loveliest piano, which I faked play for the sake of the shoot. The piano is my favorite instrument and although I haven’t played a full length song since kindergarden, I still yearn to learn it. Fun fact: my great, great grandfather, Francis Lincoln Young, invented the metro-style pianola, a piano that plays itself, if you will. A pianola will read music and play it out loud, sort of like a wind-up music box. Francis was a concert pianist in New York City and around Europe and he was knighted by the king of Spain for his musical talents. In New York publications in the society section, F.L.Y. was listed below royal families and above the Vanderbilts. Don’t worry, I’m still waiting for my secret trust fund to appear one day too…
