From Aveda scalp treatments to moisturizing your hair, read my tips on how to effortlessly achieve perfection, using my favorite products for healthy and stylish hair.
1. Give Yourself a Scalp Treatment
I had never really heard of treating my scalp until Aveda hooked me up with their Pramāsana Purifying Scalp Cleanser. They actually have an entire page of their website dedicated to scalp treatments. After using the Aveda Pramāsana Purifying Scalp Cleanser, which is a 2-step before-and-after shower treatment, my scalp felt refreshed. I don’t believe anyone thinks about all of the pollution that gets into our scalp’s pores – but once you do a scalp detox is necessary! Refreshing your scalp will clean it from the products you put on it, and the dirt and germs that get into your pores. Aveda also sent me an exfoliating scalp brush, which I could use all day. When you use all three of these products together your hair will have a healthy refresh!
2. Trim Your Hair
Even if you have spent months growing out your hair, it’s always beneficial to give your hair a little trim. Getting a trim every few months will actually encourage your hair growth by getting rid of any damaged, broken, or split ends. Think of it as a total refresh for your hair. It can’t grow if you don’t nurture it correctly, and something as easy as a trim can be done at home to save some cash. Letting split ends take hold can lead to weakening and breakage of the entire hair strand. You’d be surprised by how many split ends you can acquire over a few weeks time. Frequent hair trimmings are a great way to prevent this from happening.
3. Moisturizing Is Not Just For Your Skin!
I have tried so many deep conditioning masks that keep my hair so thick and healthy. One of my favorites has become the Amika Soulfood Nourishing mask. A lot of these formulas require you to lather it into your hair, leave it in for 10 minutes, then wash it out. Depending on your hair type, work a weekly or bi-weekly hair mask treatment into your schedule. Look for formulas with argan oil, coconut oil or shea butter—all of which are considered to be among nature’s most powerful moisture-restoring ingredients. You can also try a leave in conditioner for extra moisture throughout the day. Work a dollop into your clean, damp hair – it will help prevent your hair from becoming dried out.
4. Get Beach Waves Without The Heat
Beach waves aren’t just the signature hairstyle of summer. They’re also a healthy, low-maintenance, heatless hairstyle that will help overworked hair strands heal. Simply work a heatless hair styling crème into clean, damp hair and create one or two braids, depending upon the density of your hair. Here are the steps: 1) Wear your braids in overnight or for a few hours 2) Undo them after enough time has passed 3) Mist the lengths with salt spray hair product (my two favorites are Bumble & Bumble and R+Co) 4) Scrunch your hair like crazy. Once dried a bit more add more lightweight hairspray to give your waves longevity. Heat tools can really harm the strength and health of your hair. Put the wand down and try a heatless beach wave – they really do work!
5. Take Vitamins For Your Hair
According to Dermatologist Dr. Kundu, ““Iron levels are important for hair health. Women often develop iron-deficiency anemia because they aren’t getting enough iron. Iron-deficiency anemia can also develop due to normal monthly menstrual blood loss. There are some generic vitamins that we recommend: Vitamin D, omega, fish oils, a generic multivitamin with iron. Biotin is great in terms of hair strength and preventing breakage.”

March 20, 2018With curly hair, you really need to moisturize as often as possible. That’s something I’ve learned this year while trying to embrace my natural hair. I’ve never thought to take vitamins for it though. I’ll have to look into these.
