DSTLD Luxury Denim

DSTLD Luxury Denim

If there is one thing you should know about me as a fashion blogger it is that I have strong values when it comes to the industry as a whole. I believe a fashion company should have a social corporate responsibility, and whether that is giving back to the community, being eco-friendly, supporting freelance artists, or all of the above, I seek out brands whose values align with my own. That being said, I’d like to introduce you to the denim company, DSTLD. What peaked my interest about this company is its ‘moral fiber,’ a term that can be taken both literally and figuratively. The DSTLD organization as a whole stands for better ethics in the apparel industry, and also within production and design. Here are a few of their initiatives and values, as described by their website:

We demand a higher standard not just in denim, but also in labor practices and conditions. We carefully screen our suppliers, laundries, and factories to ensure our products are fairly manufactured and 100% sweatshop-free.

Our line is equipped with top-of-the-line premium fabrics, many of them eco-friendly and fully sustainable. We use only natural dyes and softening techniques to achieve our denim’s striking range of hues and irresistibly soft handfeel.

The goal of our direct-to-you, middleman-free stance is not only to filter out extra steps and excess markup. It is also an effort to preserve the integrity of our line and honor our relationship with clients.

An average pair of jeans from this brand will run you $100. The specific pair I have is $90, and they even have some options for as low as $75. The price you pay for ethical, handmade jeans that are made in the USA is an important thing to consider when making a purchase. Why should you pay a little extra for quality denim and a little less than the designer prices? Simply because it’s the moral thing to do. In an industry where marketing and advertising pulls you left and right, it’s easy to get mixed up in the speed of fashion. Well my friend if there’s one thing the test of time has proven, it’s that denim jeans aren’t going out of style any time soon. Investing in an ethical pair will not only help you make a difference in the world, but it will also help support an American-made business.

I styled my Mid-Rise Skinny Boyfriend Jeans in Stone Vintage in a few different ways. I absolutely love how comfortable they are! These boyfriend jeans should be a staple in every woman’s closet. I was talking to my friend the other day at the movie theater explaining why I was wearing leggings to the movies. I wore them simply because I can’t stand extended period of time in skin-tight jeans, especially when you’re sitting down for an extended amount of time. That’s where boyfriend jeans come in to save the day! Whether you’re sight seeing or going on a shopping escapade for the day – you can easily look chic and stay comfortable with a pair of boyfriend jeans. I styled mine up and down for this post. One look I’m wearing pumps, a button down and a blazer. I love how versatile these style jeans are. For the second look I kept it more casual with a light, flowy sweater. Check out the DSTLD website. They can make all your denim jeans come true – they carry products such as: white jeans, black jeans, boyfriend jeans, skinny jeans, jean shorts, lightweight T-shirts and much more! Did I mention they have all of the above for men as well?

The original price reflects what you would be paying at department stores – isn’t that mark up crazy?!

I love this post. That’s really cool that you select brands with good ethics. We need more of those.

    • tayloraube/ 01.03.2016Reply

  • Jeanne/ 02.03.2016Reply

Great denim! You look stunning Taylor!;)

  • Jalisa/ 03.03.2016Reply

I think it’s wonderful that you seek out brands that align with your morals and beliefs; it creates a sense of trust and true support between you and the brand, making it much more than clothes, but apart of your lifestyle. I also think it’s great that DSTLD truly cares about their workers and ensures that they’re working in the best conditions. It’s disgusting and so inhumane how many brands don’t value human life and look at them more like machines making their clothes and then profit so much off of their labor. Thanks so much for sharing and I love the jeans you’re wearing, they look of great quality and you styled them perfectly! I hope you’re having a great start to your day so far, girlie,!

    • tayloraube/ 03.03.2016Reply

Thank you Jalisa! DSTLD is definitely changing the game and I love them for that. It’s so sad what many women, children and men have to endure in other countries for the sake of 1st world consumers looking fashionable and chic. I will never forget the 2013 factory collapse (brands such as Mango, Walmart, and Primark made clothes in these factories) – it is a constant reminded to always advocate for humane working conditions and ethical labor laws. If you want to read about the Bangladesh building collapse, check out this article. I’m glad they pursued justice for the victims:

Great post in which is visible that you are not just looking at fashion itself but fashion that is connected with life, nature and people. And must say, the denim is amazing!

    • tayloraube/ 08.03.2016Reply

Thank your your wisdom and your comment! I definitely agree that fashion needs to be connected with the three. Hoepfully more brands will become aware of this and make efforts to have more eco-friendly options!

  • Alice/ 08.03.2016Reply

Love your look here, and those jeans are amazing! I’m a huge fan of the DTC movement lately; I was unaware of this brand until this post, definitely shopping them right now! Everlane is another one of my favorites.

This sounds like an awesome brand to partner with and to show us! I definitely believe that fashion brands need to be ethical in the way they produce items. It horrifies me – some of the stories about cheap labor. It’s nice knowing that they value the same things we do, you know?

Wonderful post and you look absolutely lovely, as always!

    Love, Mariam
