5 NYFW Runway Trends You Need to Try this Fall

NYFW Fall Trends

This is a guest post by freelance fashion writer Rachel Fey.

With fall quickly approaching, it’s time to start thinking about rotating in some seasonal pieces. Fortunately, there are tons of very stylish trends that also happen to be extremely wearable. This means that you can easily incorporate many of these looks without feeling intimidated.

To get started, I would recommend gradually transitioning to full-on fall wear in tandem with the temperature. Until it’s truly cold outside, keep some of those summer pieces around and mix and match with other articles of clothing. Pay close attention to strategic layering, texture mash-ups, and different lengths for a variety of outfits that will easily carry you into autumn.

I’ve compiled five of my favorite trends from New York Fashion Week Fall 2016 just for you! Take a peek below and get inspired for the upcoming season.

1. Medley of Metallics

From one of the experts in fashion-forward trends, The Fashion Spot has slated metallics to be one of the biggest trends of the season. And not only do I agree with this prediction, but I’d highly recommend jumping on board. From something as simple as a gold, glimmering statement clutch, to an ensemble as show-stopping as a shimmering silver cocktail dress (topped off by a must-have bomber jacket, of course), this trend allows for everyone’s tone to be complemented in a variety of ways.

2. Chokers are Choice

We first saw this trend emerge in the spring, and it’s not going away anytime soon. I just adore this look, especially for fall, because it can become a dramatic and statement-making way to glam up an otherwise run-of-the-mill outfit. What was once a scoop neck blouse and herringbone slacks is now a “wow” look with the addition of a big feather or lace choker necklace.

3. Flared Equals Fun

If you’ve ever wanted to feel like you could do the hustle at any given moment, and look damn good while breaking it down, then this flashback to the ’70s is for you. Another leading name in predicting of-the-moment looks, InStyle knows that flared everything is about to blow up. From bell bottoms to bell sleeves, this feminine and figure-flattering trend is perfect for adding some retro glam to your wardrobe.

4. Lux Colored Velvet

Whether you like to go all out in a velvety jumpsuit, or prefer your plush textile to be incorporated in the details, this is a trend that I’m totally down with. Wear this look for day by choosing a burgundy velvet skater skirt, a collared blouse, and oxfords. By night, choose a slinky, pink velvet slip dress and pair with your favorite heels and blazer.

5. Jazzed Up Jeans

With a team of trend-spotting experts, Lyst knows that jeans are a wardrobe staple, hands down, because these wear-with-everything bottoms are super practical. This season, however, the denim jean is about to get a fancy twist. Michael Kors presented a fringed denim that was dressy enough for a night out, while keeping that down to earth attitude.

I hope you’ve enjoyed my mini Fall 2016 NYFW recap with a handful of my favorite trends. These beauties are perfect for pairing with your summer finale pieces, like tanks, shorts, skirts, and sandals. With so many wearable trends this season, there’s sure to be a special look that you’ll adore.

I need to get on the choker train! I have a silver one but it’s more of a collar. I love the black ones that loop around and drape long like a necklace. So chic!

I am so excited for velvet to make its way back into fall fashion! And the chokers… I am new to those but I sure do love them!

Isn’t that blush pink velvet dress so lovely?! I had a friend in college who was afraid of velvet haha! Personally I love the texture! It’s so soft and luxurious.

Isn’t it funny how trends come and go, only to return a decade later? I would have never guessed bell bottoms would make a comeback but I can imagine this fall they will be huge, just like the denim skirt was this summer. So 2005! 😛

Such a good point Tiffani! Jeans are so fun to play around with, who says they have to be navy blue, tight with skinny ankles?! certainly not me!

  • Tamara/ 23.08.2016Reply

I think this Fashion Week is gonna be one of the all time bests! I’m so excited to take a peek at what’s coming! Velvet is definitely making me excited, I just got my first pair of velvet booties… I’m so excited to wear!
